Captain Relapse, is a Dublin-based rock band that weaves emotionally charged melodies reminiscent of the 90s into their unique sound. The band’s journey began with Konstantin, who cultivated his distinctive voice and song writing style in the welcoming embrace of the local Dublin open mic scene. After meeting like-minded musicians, Captain Relapse formed in 2022, emerging from the shadows of the pandemic lockdowns.
Captain Relapse prides itself on their genuine passion for both classic and modern rock music styles. The band has played in prominent Dublin venues such as Fibbers, The Jar, The Sound House, The Grand Social, Sin É, Frank Ryan’s, Farrier & Draper, and Workman’s Club, to name a few. Throughout 2023, the band made significant strides, progressively building a following, and honing their song performances for recording on stages across Dublin’s vibrant live music scene.
The heart of Captain Relapse lies in their cosmopolitan makeup, reflecting the diversity of its members. Kon, (Bulgarian/Canadian), takes charge of vocals and acoustic guitar, while James, an Australian-Irish guitarist, adds his unique flair. Luigi, an Italian bassist, and Vlad, a Ukrainian refugee drummer, complete this harmonious ensemble. Together, they bring a rich tapestry of influences to the stage, fusing classic, hard, and acoustic rock elements into a seamless musical experience. Captain Relapse is not just a band; they are a collective journey through the emotional landscapes of their songs, with Dublin, Ireland, as their humble home.
Kon – Lead Vocals & Lead Acoustic Guitar
Konstantin was born in Bulgaria before sailing to Canada and studying international politics. He was soon corrupted by capitalism, finding work in the finance industry. Kon’s voice, reflective lyrics, and songwriting are the foundation upon which Captain Relapse carves its music.
James – Lead Guitar
James was born in Australia, and still has an annoying accent despite successfully submitting an application for an Irish accent many years ago. Before leaving Sydney for London, and then Dublin, James had worked for nearly a decade in the musical instrument industry, namely with the brands BOSS and Roland.
Luigi – Lead Bass Guitar
Luigi represents the wholesome, sensible and logical side of Captain Relapse. A family man, a fine bass player, and an Italian. Only one thing disgusts Luigi more than pineapple on pizza, and that’s the reality that his bandmates quite fancy a bit of pineapple on pizza.
Vlad – Lead Drums
Vlad brings a masters in musical theory to the ensemble, and is without a doubt an incredible natural talent on drums. Vlad is a Ukrainian refugee, and now calls Dublin home amidst the chaos and turmoil of what is happening in his home country.
Captain Relapse has played at SIN É twice recently. The legendary rock bar in the heart of Dublin always draws a fantastic crowd, and the sound is impeccable. Plus the bar has arguably one of best craft beer selections in town.
Another one of Dublin’s legendary rock venues, Fibbers is a huge draw card for rock and hard music lovers. Captain Relapse have played a number of Thursday and Saturday nights at the venue plenty of other very cool Dublin bands.
The Soundhouse on Eden Quay above the Wiley Fox pub is another great Dublin venue for rock music. The upstairs venue features a state of the art sound and lighting system that has helped cater for energetic performances from Captain Relapse over the years.
